Dental Restorations in Livermore: What They Are and How They Can Help You

Dental RestorationsIn our Livermore dental office, we use dental restorations to restore both the functionality and appearance of teeth that have been cracked, chipped, or otherwise damaged. We can even provide you with restorations to replace missing teeth. As a cosmetic dentist, the restorations we offer will look amazing and blend in with the surrounding teeth. This is the sign of a high-quality restoration since no one will notice you had any dental work done.

Typically, people visit us for dental restorations after they have been in some sort of accident. Very often, people crack and chip teeth while playing sports, in a car wreck, wrestling with the kids, during a workplace injury, etc. Regardless of the reason, we can start the restoration after examining your mouth to determine if any infections or decay are present. If so, we will need to address these obvious health concerns first.

There are many options to consider when it comes to dental restorations. This is good because it puts you in the driver's seat and allows you to select an option based on price, appearance, and longevity. Here are the four we typically recommend.

Dental fillings. If you have a cavity, dental fillings will probably be part of your treatment process. A cavity is tooth decay and to treat it, we must remove the decayed portion of the tooth, clean the area, and then restore it. Since the decay is removed, the tooth structure will not be intact. Fillings are bonded to the surface of the tooth after being shaped so you can bite down like normal.

Dental bonding. If the tooth was cracked or chipped, dental bonding can be an excellent way to restore it. We typically recommend this solution for children, busy adults, and those on a limited budget. A bonding procedure can be completed in one visit to our dental office without help from a dental lab. This means it will be the fastest type of restoration you can get and also the most affordable. Once your teeth are cleaned, they will be roughened up and a moisturizing solution applied. Next, the bonding material will be placed on the tooth and shaped before being hardened to make a durable restoration.

Dental veneers. Adults who want to correct aesthetic problems with their smile will often get dental veneers. If you need a veneer to restore one tooth, you may want to consider having several of them placed at the same time. This is more convenient from a recovery perspective, as well.

Dental crowns. For the most durable and resilient of dental restorations, visit us for dental crowns. A crown is a cap that surrounds the tooth and prevents anything from touching it. This way you can bite down with force and without the fear of experiencing any discomfort. A crown can be made of a tooth-colored material, and it is the longest lasting type of restoration.
